Just Friends

Yesterday while driving back home I had a brief but interesting encounter with a stranger on a traffic light. The signal had just turned red as I stopped next to a car parked on the side of the road. The car had its hazard lights on. He was sitting alone inside the car and was perhaps getting bored. I glanced inside the car and was almost shocked when he suddenly faced towards me, sticking his tongue out he went… Phbtt!!! My response was instantaneous and I Phbbbttteddd even harder! This exchange got both of us excited and led to a start of a sort of tongue-exercising competition. I felt I was scoring much above him as I kept contorting the face muscles and made weird faces at him. He kept up the struggle and went on sticking his tongue out in all possible ways. But soon after he sort of shied away and slipped down in his seat and hid his face partly behind the door. I was enjoying this so much that I kept provoking him by making even more creative & crazy faces. He joined back with much more jest and the battle went on.

Soon the light turned green and I had to a make a final gesture of bye. Our short-lived play was over and he too disappointedly waved me a bye. I moved on while he kept sitting in the car waiting for his dad to finish off his business with the traffic policemen on the other side of the road. I was smiling the rest of the way home thinking what a nice and cute kid he was. He reminded me of the simple pleasures of being a naughty child.
